A gene or two, perhaps?
For the pea, it is just that.
But for us?
So much more.
What is pride?
A thought or two?
Mood or motivation?
For us, it is a matter
Of life and death.
What is freedom?
The right to say no?
Or say yes?
To have a voice?
For us, it is new.
What is love?
To see through an indiscriminate eye?
Or to trust in what is yet unknown?
For our race?
For our people?
The fight is not over.
Nor, the history forgotten.
Slave.
To man.
To woman.
To student.
To teacher.
To CEO.
To President.
