Black History Month Spotlight: Poetry

Stephanie Modkins
Black History

Being black isn't history -
only a courageous act
by a person of color
that gives people pause
causing them to remember.

_______________

Pigs Flew

Pigs finally flew
over the moon, surprising
all Americans.

Is the president black; or,
am I seeing a mirage?

Civil Rights No-No's

Before the Civil Rights Movement
There was no sin
No justice
No equality
Only people wondering
How long another race
Would reign supreme
