Black Light Puppet Show Tips

Bad weather days call for indoor fun and games, but what do you do when your family grows tired of the same old board games, whilst trying to avoid sitting in front of the television? You can combine your sense of creativity, while entertaining your family with a blacklight puppet show. Family members of all ages will appreciate the entertaining and creative spectacle.

Using bright white socks for your puppets, is perhaps the best way to properly display the puppets in a blacklight. You can incorporate neon-colored felt to add defining touches to your white sock puppets. Do not use dark colors or muted colors. Blacklight illuminates neon colors and pastels.

Obviously you're going to use blacklights to set your stage, but how many you will need depends on the effect you are wishing to create. Standard blacklight strips can be found for as little as fifteen dollars in many department stores that have a home decor section. For a moderately sized puppet show for a family, two or three of these strips will be adequate.

With the blacklight casting a glow upon the puppets, you can create such themes as reptilian puppets, to completely imaginary characters. Have your family brainstorm as to what theme they would like to incorporate in the puppet show. If you're entertaining a group of children, fairy tale themes tend to always work. For a fun and child-approved fairy tale, have your family decorate their hand puppets to resemble their favorite fairy tale character. Once all of the puppets are completed, incorporate all of them into your own custom fairytale. This will amuse your family, and even spark creativity in the children.

An educational puppet show in the blacklight is another great idea for families. Create puppets to resemble memorable people in history, and then stage an historically accurate puppet show to educate and entertain. Some popular figures and memories to recreate include Paul Revere's Ride, and the life of Cleopatra. This is also a great tip for elementary school teachers who want to include something fun with their lesson plans.

Regardless of the type of blacklight puppet show you decide to present, you are sure to enjoy yourself and your family or students will grow to appreciate the quality time you put into this project. Always keep a blacklight handy, and never throw away those old white socks because these simple items can be the pathway to fun and entertainment.
