Black Obama Voters Are Being Racist? What About Those Claiming Black Folks Must Be Voting for Obama?

How Accusations of Racialist Voting by Black Voters Redound to Those Who Are Saying It

Hello. I'm DSDunlap, and I approved this message. If you don't like it, kick rocks.

The news media, some Democrats and Republicans, and other folks, mostly white, make statements to the effect that, "Black voters are going to vote for Obama because he's black."

Such a statement is telling in that it says that it isn't possible that black folks may be voting for Obama because they believe he fits their political views better than McCain does. It says that it just isn't possible that these pro-Obama voters are voting as such not because he's black, but because on some of the issues, Obama is promsing things more in line with what they perceive to be in their interest. Such a statement also says that black folks are incapable of thinking for themselves and possibly voting for McCain. Why am I saying all of this, though there is no way in all of Creation that I would vote FOR Obama? Because, quite frankly, I am rather sick and tired of all these white people saying that black people are GOING to vote for Obama because he's black. It speaks as much about their own racism as it does about whatever racism black voters may be showing in voting FOR Obama.

Yes, I'm calling folks out here and there and everywhere. Where does ANYONE get off presuming that someone is definitely going to vote one way because of a candidate's "race?" That is giving too little credit to the thinking capacities of a group of people. If they do vote one way, fine. It's their right as citizens of the Republic, but don't go off assuming the reasons for such a vote unless that person tells you that is the reason. This goes both ways. Black folks also shouldn't assume that white McCain voters are all voting that way BECAUSE McCain is white and not black, either. Before making assumptions about someone's voting choice based on their "race," take a look in the mirror and consider YOUR OWN REASONS for assuming such.

As I just mentioned, in case any of you did not get it, this attitude goes both ways. What really sets me off is that the Democrats assume that any black voter who does not vote Democrat is somehow "selling out" or otherwise doing something sacreligious. They assume that they have the Black vote wrapped up and that no self-respecting black voter would DARE vote the other way. The Republicans set me off because they seem to have assumed that "we can't win black votes, so why bother telling our side in a way that gets through to them." That is not only a racialist attitude, but it is also defeatist. If the Republicans want the black vote, go and fight for it. We ARE intelligent enough to see the truth and the facts if you're willing to present them and keep on presenting them in ways that get through to people.
