Black Swan: a Pscychological Thriller for Some

Deborah Rosenblum
I was invited to see "Black Swan" for a family member's birthday. I had not seen any previews and the only reason I wanted to see it was I heard it would be dark and it centered around ballet. Ever since I was a little girl I have had an interest in ballet and the beauty of it. I came into the theater with no expectations and not even sure if it would be that great of a movie. I was definitely taken by surprise by the content of the film and the truly psychological and cereberal nature of this movie.

"Black Swan" stars Natalie Portman as the title character, she plays a brilliant dancer who has a truly twisted mind. The movie centers around her dancing career and her own internal struggles. There are a lot of times in the movie where one may question whether things have happened or not. This movie brings to mind other movies with similar psychological brilliantness like " Shutter Island" and " Inception" which both Star Leonardo DiCaprio. These movies may have you leaving the theater asking what happened.

Without giving too much away it seems like Natalie's character has some deep rooted psychological issues. But the question that can be brought up is how much is truly psychological and how much is not psychological and does happen? I remember leaving a crowded theater when "Black Swan" was only playing at select theaters in the Cleveland area and hearing multiple people ponder over the movie.

Being as interested as I was in this movie I had to see it again. The second time cleared up some confusion for me as to some plot lines that I had questioned as I had another opportunity to debate with a friend. I still am confused on some plot points in the movie and still question whether some events in the movie were truly reality or not. Maybe at a later date I will write a more thorogh synopsis but at the moment I do not want to spoil it for those that have yet to see it. If you want to further discuss the movie with me please leave comments in the forum section I would be interested in hearing thoughts people have on this movie. I recommend this movie and would say see it more than once if you have the opportunity and talk about it. A truly good film is able to stimulate the mind and allow for discussion and imagination.

I am not sure if there is anything to argue about the ending but at a later date when more people have seen it, I might go more in depth... not sure yet.
