Black and White, Dark and Light: An Art Show

Local Artist, Thomas Denaro's Work on Display at the Albert Wisner Library

I learned a new word today and the word is "giclée". It is a French word that means a spray or a jet of liquid. It is used in regard to fine art. Giclée is associated with prints that use fade-resistant archival inks that are printed on high-quality paper.

Not only did I learn the word but I actually got to witness the effect it has to offer, up close and personal, and it is truly beautiful to behold. I love it when that happens! You hear a new word and get to see it in action and you just know you'll never be the same again. Maybe that is why I love going to different places to see unique things.

My husband and I attended a gallery showing by our friend and local artist, Tom Denaro, whose pen and ink drawings are gracing the walls at the new Albert Wisner Library in Warwick, New York for the entire month of March. Tom's artwork offered up some real eye-candy!

If you have never attended a gallery showing, I highly recommend this one to be your first. It is a rare opportunity to look at your surroundings and glance at those common places that you pass by on a daily basis and then view them in a whole new perspective - through the eyes and hands of the artist.

Denaro's pen and ink creations offer up a surrealistic view which seems to transcend time and space. The ordinary becomes the extraordinary.

We spent several hours just looking at his work. It's amazing how each piece reflects a snapshot of a moment in time, a cloud captured - its movement forever stilled by the artist's handiwork. I was mesmerized. I remembered feeling that way once before when I walked through the Louvre in Paris. I stood for hours spellbound, staring - hardly breathing. Art has that spellbinding effect upon me.

If you're near the Hudson Valley, take the scenic ride over to the Albert Wisner Library in Warwick to view Tom's artistry. The Library is located on McFarland Drive in Warwick just 70 miles north of NYC. You can phone them at (845) 986-1047.

You may find yourself looking at the ordinary in a whole new light!
