Blackbery Storm Product Review

I just got my self a blackberry storm! its my first "smart phone" also my first phone with a qwerty keyboard which is super nice. I am am an Apple fanboy though, even though I am an avid Linux user, cause i cant afford an Apple laptop, and hell would have to freeze over before I ever Used windows or should I dare even mention the word Vista....( I didn't say that, you can ignore it). With that said I would love an IPhone but unfortunately the Iphone is not on Verizon and I am not switching networks, so my next best thing I can do for a nifty Internet cruising phone is the Blackberry Storm.

So here are my initial impressions. I love the surepress technology! If you don't know what this is, it is the touch screen that you actually press in. Basically the whole screen is a huge button. Its a touch screen but for it to register a "click" you have to press the whole screen down. This works great for me when typing so I never accidentally click a letter or something else I don't want to. This feature was even voted one of the best design featured of the year apparently. But unfortunately it seems Blackberry actually didn't like the idea, because rumours have it that the new Blackberry Storm 2 will not be sporting the Surepress technology...there goes that great idea.

My initial reactions are up and down, its a great phone with amazing clarity when talking on the phone and like I mentioned before I loved the surepress technology. Surfing the Internet is also surprisingly fast and easy to do and I have been extremely happy with my experience surfing the net.

The major problem with the blackberry storm is its speed, it seems to be pretty slow out of the box and hangs up and freezes often. Doing a quick Google search I found some nice tricks to speed boost my storm and for the most part now its doesn't freeze of hang up, but it still happens on occasion. All storm users are patiently waiting for Blackberry and Verizon to release an OS update to fix these problems, and unfortunately this is taking way to long! I know I just got my storm but I have been reading up and it has been a bit since the Storm was released, and you would have thought they would have fixed this all by now.

Blackberry recently opened what they call the App World which is there version of the Application store that the iphone has. Unfortunately again the Blackberry app store does not even compare to the Iphone app store, in the amount of content. Not only does the blackberry app store not have half as many cool and useful applications as the Iphone app store but it seems the prices on Apps are much higher when compared to applications in the Iphone store.

Even with these negatives I still love my Blackberry Storm, it works for me and what I need to get done. Its got the calendar, tasks, a great camera, and a facebook application which connects with your phones contact lists updating numbers and pictures for contacts. I also am pretty happy with the battery life of the storm, but am still thinking of buying an even bigger battery for it, which is one plus it has over the Iphone, the battery can be taken out an replaced by me.I do wish that Blackberry and Verizon would get together and fix the speed problems with the storm, and hopefully as the app world ages more and more people will port their IPhone apps over to the blackberry platform, and prices will also come down for applications. If these things happen i will love my Blackberry storm even more!
