Blah, Blah, Blah: Song Titles with the Same Word Three Times

Last summer some U.S. troops in Afghanistan appeared in a YouTube video lip-syncing to Lady Gaga's Telephone. According to the July 21, 2010 issue of USA Today, Israeli soldiers later posted a video on which they were dancing to Kei$ha's Tik Tok.

Had I been among the soldiers in the video, I would have chosen a different Kei$ha song to dance to. My pick would have been one of her latest hits, Blah Blah Blah. Not only is it an interesting name, but it's also one of the few songs to use the same word three times in their titles.

I decided to come up with a list of my ten favorite songs that fit that category. The list features some relatively unknown artists as well as several who are in the Rock Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry.

10. Hot Hot Hot by The Cure: The 80s new wave song has lightning striking three times, throwing the guy around and burning his house down, but he still swears, "I like it when that lightning strikes."

9. Lies, Lies, Lies by The Derailers: The alt-country band from Texas sings about being taken for a fool in this track on the 2001 Jackpot album.

8. Try Try Try by Jason Mraz: The pop star rhymes "optimistic" and "altruistic" while "spreading (his) philosophy of love" on this catchy tune from 2009.

7. Run Run Run by Jo Jo Gunne: Before Jay Ferguson peaked with Thunder Island as a solo artist, he fronted the pop-rock band that recorded this late 60s hit.

6. Spin Spin Spin by Jim Croce: The listener can almost feel himself spinning as the late folk-rock story teller sings the chorus of this hit single.

5. Cry Cry Cry by Johnny Cash: His chorus of "Burn burn burn" from Ring of Fire is more well-known, but this three-peat brings the tears so often accompanying classic country.

4. Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds: Thefolk-rock band scored one of their biggest hits with this Pete Seeger composition of Biblical allusions. The multi-layered vocals and infectious repetition of the chorus are probably what makes the tune so enduring.

3. Fun Fun Fun by The Beach Boys: Even though "her daddy took the T-Bird away" in the first chorus, the band keeps a jaunty rhythm and sweet harmonies all the way though.

2. Hi Hi Hi by Paul McCartney and Wings: One of McCartney's early hits after the Beatles breakup shows he's confident and happy with his new band.

1. Nice Nice Very Nice by Ambrosia: The opening track from the art rock quartet's brilliant self-titled debut credits Kurt Vonnegut as a co-writer. The lyrics describe an array of the world's population, surmising that "We all are partners in this cosmic dance."
