Blake Griffin Better Not See Too Many Stars in LA

He's Gotta Play Lights Out

In a move that was about as surprising as the Los Angeles Lakers beating the Orlando Magic in this year's Finals, the L.A. Clippers selected Oklahoma State Forward Blake Griffin as the first pick in the 2009 NBA Draft last night in New York.
The Clippers need all the help they can get, especially considering the franchise has only made 2 playoff appearances in my entire life, the last one being in 2005-2006 season of which only center Chris Kaman remains.

Speaking of Kaman, and Marcus Camby, and Zach Randolph, doesn't it seem that the Clippers are already quite strong in the paint and may not be able to develop Blake Griffin with enough time at the four or five spot, particularly when you consider he has enough talent to make an impact in the big leagues right away?!

The Clips' management would probably argue yes because all three of the aforementioned forwards were out with injuries last season that caused them to miss significant stretches of games. But given that the Clippers are seen as the Lakers' little brother that nobody wants to play with, maybe the organization should have traded (or still will trade) Griffin and Camby to the Sun's persay for a young guard picked later in the draft along with a veteran forward with enough star punch to push the Clippers into the playoffs and sell some tickets, a man most commonly known as Amare Stoudemire.

Although a deal is already in the works and almost official to send the all star to the Golden State Warriors, you have to think Stoudemire would look good in a big market jersey that he might be tempted to stick with beyond next season, the Clippers would be poised for the playoffs NOW instead of always having an eye on the future.

Amare and a nice guard you could groom to replace Baron Davis once his body is beyond repair, would give you a huge front court and a young star in Eric Gordon with either Davis or a young gun in the backcourt, pretty sweet isn't it!?

For now we'll just have to hope that young Griffin can parlay 22 points and 14 rebounds a game at the college level to an impressive rookie season that impresses the Staples Centre faithful on a nightly basis. One thing is for sure, a lot of Clippers fans want to see the team finally start winning consistently after so many losing seasons.
