Blake Griffin Said to Win the Slam Dunk Contest

As the past season's slam dunk contest was a bore, this year's contest is said to be filled with many memorable theatrics, mainly at the hands of a gifted and talented athlete that is Blake Griffin. The nearly 22 year old Blake Griffin comes from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where it was here that he honed his basketball skills. He attended both high school and college in the city and by 2009, was ready for the NBA, so much so that he was the number one draft pick for the L.A. Clippers. What a pick the Clippers must now think, as the 6"10 Forward has quickly made his mark in the league. He is still considered a rookie, for he missed his entire first season due to injury but has rebounded enormously since then. Known for his explosiveness and non-fear at attacking the rim, Griffin's debut game consisted of a sensational dunk for his first goal of the season. His second game not only consisted of spectacular dunks, but also a rookie record of a 44 point scoring frenzy for the athlete. From then on, it has been the Griffin show as spectators nationwide can't wait to see what will come next. Like the anticipation of other athletic phenoms, including Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James, Blake Griffin's introduction into the NBA has reflected a similar eagerness from fans across the nation. Regardless of who the fan is rooting for, if Griffin is playing all want to see him score and see him score in high fashion. Blake's aggressive and explosive approach to the basket leaves those guarding it trembling. He has made many a poster child of his fascinating dunks, including elite athletes such as Ben Wallace and Amare Stoudemire.

The 2011 Slam Dunk Contest presented by Sprite this year has many filled with much anticipation. From spectators to commentators alike, everyone will be tuned in to perhaps the best contest since greats such as Sean Kemp. In the Dallas vs. Oklahoma City post game last night on TNT, Charles Barkley compared Blake Griffin to the legendary Sean Kemp and further mentioned that with his growth in the league, he is expected to surpass Kemp's fame for not only classical, breath-taking dunks, but may also become one of the all time greats. Kenny "The Jet" Smith has Blake as his top pick and even set up a meeting/interview with the young talent to go over some of the expectations that comes with the dunk contest and to offer advice. As the suspense is growing so is the fame and glory of this young athlete. However, he seems to be taking it all in stride and has not illustrated the egotistical and cocky attitude that can easily overtake the more weak minded. Instead, this is left on the court for all to see and enjoy and also speaks volumes when analyzing this kid's character. The NBA Slam Dunk Contest airs February 19th from the Staple's Center, with first events to start at 8pm. Will You Be There?
