Blake Lewis, Nice Guys Never Finish Last

Blake Lewis Cool Idol

Blake Lewis is a nice guy. He won the coin toss on American Idol and so the right to choose his position. He could go first or last, last generally being the best position. But a gentleman to the end, he turned to Jordin Sparks and asked her what she would prefer. Jordin opted to go last and Blake was fine with that. I love Jordin too, but Blake got my vote. He won my heart. He's a cool quirky, gentleman. What a great combination. He probably got that from his dad, the guy who was always crying. Blake's dad is just too much. He is completely in love with his son. I remember dad form the first audition. He was jumping up and down and could barely speak he was so full of emotion that Blake made it to Hollywood.

When Melinda was voted off, Blake stood in the background and gave Melinda the spotlight, and the flowers. The announcement that Melinda was going home meant that he was one of the finalist, yet he got no recognition that night and was a gracious winner, giving Melinda the stage. He didn't jump up and down in glee. He seemed genuinely sad for Melinda. He's so nice.

Blake's performances in the final show were great. The Bon Jovi song of course is amazing and brilliant. The Maroon 5 showed his true style and what could easily be his bread and butter when he's done with Idol. The final song, the one both he and Jordin had to sing, was just a crummy song. It was just a really boring song. And for all of Randy's raving about Jordin, I though she did a mediocre job on that song also. The song was just bad.

Jordin was impossible to beat in the end. She had the voice and smile and likeability. As Randy said, she probably is the better singer. I probably wouldn't buy her album though. I'll buy Blake's album. He's fresh and interesting and has a cool voice. He has reminded me of Sting from the beginning of the season, except for the whole beat boxing thing of course. I thought I hated beat boxing until Blake. I have a new respect.

The absolute best performance of the entire season was Blake's version of Bon Jovi's "You give Love a Bad Name". It was genius and he delivered it perfectly. He lost the competition, but, Blake will be fine. He's a gentleman with amazing talent. How can he loose?
