One of the main beauty complaints people have is that of cellulite accumulation and how difficult it can be to get rid of. Anyone can be affected by cellulite, regardless of age, gender or weight , cellulite does not discriminate.

Cellulite is a mixture of fat, water and toxins that normally accumulates on the buttocks, hips, legs, thighs and sometimes the arms and stomach. While there are studies showing that some people may be more genetically predisposed towards developing cellulite, there are several other reasons why it can develop. It is believed that besides having a diet high in fat, starches and carbohydrates, other factors that can lead to a person developing cellulite are stress and also the use of birth control pills.

Stress can play a significant role in cellulite production. When a person is under a lot of physical and/ or emotional stress, the body naturally increases its levels of cortisol and catecholamine which are hormones that research has shown can lead to unwanted belly fat and increased cellulite accumulation. While you may not be able to always avoid circumstances that cause you high stress, there are things that can be done to help lower stress levels, thus reducing the chances of developing more of the unsightly dimples caused by cellulite. Yoga, meditation, going for long walks and having someone to talk to in times of need all are great ways to help reduce stress levels. Drinking a cup of chamomile or valerian tea when you feel anxious and stressed out can also be a destressor as chamomile and valerian are both herbs used to calm and soothe the nerves.

Birth control pills can also attribute to the formation of cellulite as they tend to have high dosages of estrogen which cause a woman's body to store more fat and retain more water. If you notice that you have developed more cellulite after beginning a new form of birth control pill, ask your health care provider to recommend a pill with a lower dose of estrogen which can be just as effective yet less likely to cause cellulite.

If you still suffer from cellulite and you are not taking a birth control pill or under high stress, then perhaps a change in diet and excercise is just what the beauty doctor ordered. The first and most important trick for avoided and diminishing the appearance of cellulite on your body is to drink lots of water every day. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day will ensure that your body is able to flush itself from unwanted toxins which, if left in your body, can lead to cellulite production. Try to avoid drinking too many caffeinated beverages like soda and coffee. Caffeine leads to dehydration and therefore the accumulation of toxins in your body. Cut out alchoholic beverages from your diet as well. While alchoholic beverages can contain a lot of sugar and empty calories, alchohol itself also dehydrates and slows down your bodies natural ability to process toxins. So, skip out on the coffee, sodas and alchohol and drink plenty of water, herbal teas and natural juices to flush away all the toxins in your body and therefore helping you get rid of that cottage cheese skin!

While drinking plenty of healthy fluids is important in order to avoid or eradicate cellulite on your body, eating healthily is also of the essence. Make an effort to eat fresh, organic fruits, vegetables, grains and meats while avoiding processed foods. Processed foods contain high levels of chemicals, sugars, starches and other toxin producing additives and preservatives which will all end up under your skin in those pockets of cellulite that we all want to avoid. Replace all of the bad fats in your diet with healthy ones, such as olive oil, avocados and omegas. The less transfats you put in your body, the smoother your skin will be.

Excercise is also key to avoiding cellulite. Keep your body in motion and there will be less chance of the water, fat and toxins that make up cellulite to be able to hang around on your body. Even a simple 10-20 minute work-out a day is enough to ensure that your metabolism gets a boost and unwanted fat stays off of your body.

While there are many creams and cosmetic procedures out there that promise to get rid of cellulite quickly, the best way to avoid and get rid of it is to destress your life, stay hydrated and live a healthy lifestyle with plenty of good food and excercise. Not only will your cellulite diminish, but you will also be healthier overall. Cellulite can affect anyone at anytime, but taking a course of action towards a healthier lifestyle can help you beat cellulite for good.
