Blaze Win 10-5 in Extra Innings at Visalia

The Bakersfield Blaze (4-10) rallied in extra innings to defeat the Visalia Rawhide (12-2) in Wednesday's matinee at Recreation Park in Visalia.

Visalia RP Jeff Dietz (0-1) would get the loss walking two and hitting one in the top of the 11th eventually leading to the wining run being a forced walk. Bakersfield increased their lead on a Matthew Lawson one-run single and Mauro Gomez three-run double (2) giving the Blaze the lead and the win 10-5.

Blaze starter Michael Kirkman (1-1) gave up 7 H, 4ER in five innings while fanning seven, walking three and giving up one home run. RP Evan Reed (1-0) would keep Bakersfield in the game pitching 3.1 innings allowing just 1H and striking out two, notching the win.

Visalia starter Patrick McAnaney (2-0) who had not given up any home runs this season struggled early in the game giving up 5 H, 3ER, in five innings with 3BB and 3 K's including a one-run homerun from Mauro Gomez his fourth on the season as Bakersfield opened the scoring for the first time in eight games.

In a see-saw contest the Blaze out hit the Rawhide 12 to 9 with offensive production from Mitch Moreland (1H, 1HR, 1RBI) Matthew Lawson (3H, 1DBL, 2RBI) and Mauro Gomez (3H, 1DBL 1HR, 6RBI) who went 5 for 6 including a two-run game tying homer in the eighth.

The Blaze return home to begin a four game series tonight at 7:15 p.m. against last place Stockton Ports (1-12) at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Tonight's game will be a Thirsty Thursday with
$1 12 oz. draft domestics and 20 oz. fountain sodas.

What's Burning: Blaze 2B Matt Lawson is tied for the league lead in batting average at .415 with two homers. LHP Michael Kirkman's 21 strikeouts are tops on the pitching staff.
