Blind Melon - Self-Titled

Blind Melon's 1992 Breakthrough

Rick Beryl
First released back in 1992, Blind Melon's Self-Titled album contains the 1990's classic single "No Rain". This album is considered by fans to be the big breakthrough for Blind Melon's commercial success. The band had already been in existence since 1989. When the video for "No Rain" which included the "Bee Girl" was aired, Blind Melon's self-titled album sold in huge quantities and is now 4X Platinum.

The music styles on Blind Melon are varied. Not all the tracks sound like "No Rain". You can get a little heavy metal, a little classic rock, and a little folk rock. There are a total of 13 tracks on this album. "Tones of Home" and "Change" had some time on both the US and UK charts. Blind Melon contains some of my very favorite music from the 1990's, and that is saying a great deal since most of my favorite music is from previous eras. At a time when the music scene was going through a great deal of change, Blind Melon produced some very timeless music. It sounds as fresh today as it did when first released more than fifteen years ago. Some of my friends would say this is an album you could play while relaxing on a hammock on a warm spring day while drinking ice-cold lemonade. The more you play it the more it will grow on you.

Blind Melon does contain some explicit lyrics on some tracks. We may never know what additional great music may have come from the original line-up of Blind Melon. Sadly, the lead singer, Shannon Hoon, came to an untimely death during the recording of their second album.
