Blizzard Entertainment Would Want James Cameron for StarCraft Film

Keeping it simple: No, there is currently no StarCraft film currently in production. But if James Cameron wanted to do it, Blizzard Entertainment would gladly accept him to do it.

The success of the first StarCraft-now a possible tool for management class-and the continued success of the sequel StarCraft: Wings of Liberty does make a film adaptation of the epic battle between the human Terrans, the technologically advanced Protoss, and the Zerg infestation a very lucrative idea. But given the failure of pretty much every film adapted from a video game since Super Mario Bros., finding the right director and studio to do a video game adaptation justice has been like finding a needle in a haystack. Or if you are a fan who keeps hoping to find a good video game movie: Souring a stack of needles barehanded looking for a piece of hay.

Blizzard Entertainment's EVP of Game Design Rob Pardo states that the company wanted to go in that direction for some time.

"We've always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It's just tricky to find the right partners. We probably could have made a [StarCraft] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it's really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties. That's always been the challenge for us. I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, 'You want to make a StarCraft movie?' we'd probably sign that."

Given James Cameron's vision of acid spitting aliens, relentless killing cyborgs, imaginative designs for sentient aliens, and engaging stories involving each of them. Well, Avatar's plot was rather weak, but the contrast between human technology and indigenous life was stellar in 3D. Some of the StarCraftunits like the Dropship and how the Zerg attack do feel like an homage to some of James Cameron's work-namely Aliens. Most of Blizzard Entertainment's games already do a good dose of cinematic storytelling as it weaves the game together. So perhaps a film adaptation is the next step for Blizzard Entertainment and StarCraft.

Wanting James Cameron to do a StarCraft film is about as shocking as asking Gordon Ramsey to cook at your dinner party. It would be more shocking if Blizzard Entertainment were okay with Gordon Ramsey directing its StarCraft movie. I am pretty sure the backstage cursing would be entertaining enough on its own.
