Groceries for the Blizzard
Get out early and stock up on juice, milk, bread, sandwich meat, sliced cheese, peanuts butter, and other food items essential for your family. Cereal is one item that can be substituted for a meal during a blizzard. The right cereals can provide the needed minerals and vitamins that your family will be missing by not eating the home-prepared meals.
Purchase some canned items, they are high in salt, but food is food during an emergency. Canned tuna, spaghetti, vegetables and raviolis are good items to have on hand when the power goes off as they are editable unheated.
Foods that one does not need to cook are essential if the power goes out. A hand operated can opener is always a good thing to have. With canned goods, you only need to remove food from the can and feed your family, without worrying how to cook it. If the power goes out and you are unable to cook a dinner of raviolis or a ham sandwich will feed your family. Be smart, and prepare for the blizzard.
The entire community, in which you live will be stocking up also for groceries for the blizzard. It is essential that customers purchase what they need. It might make the difference with those people who have to go without.
I know a loaf of bread will normally last my family 2 or 3 days but if we are eating many sandwiches in a power outage, it might be two loaves a day. In the event of a blizzard, I might grab 4-6 loaves for a 3-4 day event. If we do not lose power, I'll just toss them in the freezer so they do not go to waste. There are currently five people living in my home, so my estimates may be different then what you need to prepare for.
A blizzard is scary without a doubt, preparing ahead will save you much anxiety as the event unfolds.
