Review
This app is an extreme improvement on the classic Tetris game. Yes, it is basically a game involving falling blocks. However, it goes well above and beyond the simple game popularized by the classic Tetris game.
The goal of the game stays the same - a player needs to create a solid row of blocks, which automatically disappear once a row is completed. Probably, one of the major improvements from the classic falling blocks game is the use of the 4 sides of the game area. Tilting the gadget to any direction moves the block to that particular side of the screen. Another major change is the removal of the 'gravity' factor. Most people may need to adjust to this change - once a row is cleared, the blocks do not fall down or move in order to fill the cleared spaces.
The game is rather difficult - all the old tricks that go along with playing the classic Tetris will no longer come into play. It is, as they say, a whole other ball game.
Four different game modes are offered - Arcadia, Guillotine, Infinitas and Quest mode.
Arcadia and Guillotine modes are timed, with Arcadia giving players some time to clear a single line and Guillotine giving players limited time to put a piece in place.
Infinitas has no time limit - the object of this game mode is to keep clearing lines to keep the game going.
Quest mode, on the other hand, sees the player attempt to defeat Mobs (special blocks randomly scattered in the game area).
Pricing
Block Knights is available on the iTunes store for $0.99. A free Lite version of the game is also available.
Conclusion
The game graphics, rich sound quality, and original musical score are outstanding. Game play and the two methods for game control are above average. The game also has a high replay value. Overall, this app comes in with a rating of 4 out of 5. Highly Recommended!
