Blog Monetizing - When Should You Start?

Many bloggers often have a difficult time deciding when to start monetizing their blogs. Afterall, a lot of effort is required to maintain a blog that aims to attract a high number of visitors while ensuring a lot of useful content is made available to them. Still, not many people can achieve this without a return for the time and effort spent doing it.

Yet, many bloggers are wary of monetizing their blogs, for fear of turning away visitors who traditionally frown upon seeing websites plastered with advertising banners and affiliate programs. Therefore, it takes careful thought and planning to ensure your blog maintains a fine balance between user satisfaction and maximizing revenue potential.

If you have just started your blog without much content, it might be wise to hold back on your blog monetization plan for awhile. Readers are easily put off when visiting a new blog with advertisements staring right at them. It can often give the wrong impression that your intention is to make money, instead of providing visitors with quality content worth their time.

However, this does not mean that you should only start monetizing your blog after you have achieved success. Not many blogs last the distance, so instead of waiting to see if yours does, start monetization on a smaller scale. Include one or two banners in less noticeable areas. Insert a few affiliate links into your blog posts, where suitable. Not only do these make your monetizing efforts less obtrusive, you can start leveraging on their income potential before waiting for your blog to mature.

If you can place emphasis on your content when a reader visits, with minimal effect on performance in terms of site navigation and usability, then readers are less likely to mind your monetizing efforts. This could be done by limiting the number of banners or widgets on your blog which could affect site loading time. Remember, the first thing they wish to see is your content, and not signs telling them to part with their money when they visit your blog.

Choose monetization methods which can also be aligned to your blog's theme or niche. You can even include products or programs to sell which are beneficial to your readers. For example, if your blog is in the technology niche, then some of your readers are more than likely to look for related products such as hosting services or technology gadgets. If you put up affiliate programs on your blog that serve these needs, then these monetization methods can in fact be appreciated by your readers.

Therefore, the time to start monetizing your blog can be down to finding the right balance in adding monetization methods without compromising your readers' need for content and site usability. Add methods which can also provide solutions to your readers problems or niche, and that would smooth the process without incurring their wrath, as they would appreciate your help in doing so.
