Blog Spotlight: Julie Strietelmeier ofThe-Gadgeteer.com
An Informative Blog by a Woman Who Knows Her Gadgets
The Blog is ran by Julie Strietelmeier .She started the site back in 1997 and has been going strong since. I recently had the chance to ask Julie a few questions on how she feels about the future of blogs, and what motivates her to keep blogging. Here are her answers she so kindly shared.
Q: How did you become involved in Blogging?
Julie-I started The Gadgeteer in 1997 after having run a successful multi-line dial up BBS for several years.
Q: What was your first product review?
Julie- you know, I don't even remember! One of my first "big time" reviews as the Texas Instruments Avigo PDA.

When I say 'big time', I mean that this was one of the first products that was sent to me by the company to review. Before that, I was buying all the products myself to write about.
Q: What motivates you to keep Blogging?
Julie-The fun that I receive from learning about new products.
Q: What advice would you offer to someone who is new to the whole Blog world?
Julie-The Internet is a big place, pick a unique topic and speak your opinion. There will always be people out there ready to read it.
Q: Where do you see Blogging headed in the future?
Julie-The sky is the limit. Blogging is everywhere and is as pervasive as the evening news. Maybe even more so for people under the age of 50. I mean I don't watch the news on TV. I get it from websites. :o)
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
Julie-What free time? ;o) I enjoy watching TV, Movies, reading and geocaching. (For those that don't know what geocaching is it's a outside treasure hunt where people use GPS systems to find containers that have been hid anywhere in the world.)
Q: If you could have a dream vacation of your choosing where would you go? And why?
Julie-My dream vacation would be 2 months on a private tropical island. Why? Because I wouldn't mind being cut off from civilization for awhile, and 2 months sounds like the perfect length of time.
Q: Do you read any blogs on a regular basis? If so which ones?
Julie-Engadget.com , gizmodo.com , mobiletechreview.com ,and a billion others :o)
Julie provides reviews on all the latest gadgets and has them broken down into several categories so you can easily locate the type of product you are looking for. Some of the categories include, audio /video gear, desktop computer gear, digital cameras, do-it-yourself gear, geek toys, GPS related, Home tech, laptop gear, portable gaming, and wireless to name a few. There is also a forum on Julie's site where you can discuss the product reviews and comment on the articles and pod casts. You can visit Julie's gear diary to learn about the gadgets she is currently using herself. She lists her computer gear, car gear, and several others. She also lists some of her favorite links and tells about recent movies she has watched. You can find out about her favorite TV shows at the current time. Right now they are Survivor, Prison break, ER, Grey's Anatomy, The biggest loser and The Amazing Race. If you have a product you would like to see reviewed you can submit it to Julie at julie@the-gadgeteer.com, she answers emails very fast. When reviewing an item Julie provides the pros and cons along with several pictures showing the different features an item has. She even lists the best place to shop for the item if you decide you want to purchase it. There is an archive offering the reviews as far back as June of 1998.Another great section is a list of free trade publications and magazines for qualified professionals to receive. The staff of Julie's site consists of herself as Editor in Chief, Rob Tillotson, Web developer and Contributing Hardware Editor, Kent Lanum, Contributing Editor of Windows Mobile software, and Mark Adkins, Contributing Editor of Palm software. Julie admits she was born a gadget freak and when she was little she always was dismantling old household devices. She also states that she gets bored easily and can never have enough new devices to try out. I would highly recommend checking out her Blog site at http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/.
Whether you are in the market for a new device or gadget or you just enjoy reading about new products, this is the site for you. Maybe you want to have a product reviewed before you go out and buy it; Julie would be the perfect one to do this for you. Her reviews are very in-depth and complete. I would like to thank Julie Strietelmeier of the Gadgeteer for taking the time to answer my questions and let the world see what makes her Blog so wonderful.
