Blogging Advice to Help You Get More Traffic to Your Blog

Jennifer Ledbetter
Wow, you've put a lot of work into your blog. The content on your blog is fresh, witty, and relevant. Your blog has a great look to it and is easy to navigate. You have a real knack for blogging! This might be the most perfect blog ever! Well, it's the perfect blog - except for one problem. No one is reading it.

Let's face it, your blog needs a loyal fan-base.

How in the world do you get traffic to a new blog? "Build it and they will come" does not work quite that way on the internet. Even the best of sites, the most perfectly optimized sites, can get lost in the deepest part of results from a search engine. Many blogs fall to this tragic death, too.

This "blog-death" begins so innocently, too, and then it snowballs out of control. At first, you work hard and are focused on creating content for your blog. Slowly you start to realize that no one is visiting your blog. You then start this almost manic-like behavior of relentlessly checking your stats. Your fears become confirmed - no one IS visiting your blog.

The final "nail in the coffin" is when you become disenchanted with your blog and start posting less and less frequently until the day when you no longer post at all.

The result? Another dead blog.

Is there an alternative?

Yes! Learn some tips and techniques and learn how to promote your blog. With a few pointers, you can get more eyes on your blog and slowly build YOUR loyal fan-base of dedicated blog readers.

Blog Traffic Tip #1 - Get out there and comment on other blogs.

Yup, you heard me - Take the time to find blogs that are similar in content to your blog. Comment on these with witty, fresh content that reflects your inner genius. Curiosity will get the best of other readers and they will click through to see what else you have to say.

Blog Traffic Tip #2 - Encourage participation on YOUR blog

Get your readers involved! Ask questions - request insight and feedback - initiate conversation. A blog is meant to be a social interaction site, so get the social interaction started!

Blog Traffic Tip #3 - Article Marketing works for blogs, too

You may have heard of people creating content and publishing them in online article directories in order to have a link to their website in the author bio box. This method of free promotion works great for blogs, too! Write a few (or a hundred) 400-600 word articles on subject matter that pertains to the theme of your blog and add a link to your blog with some catchy wording in the "about the author" box.

Don't know anything about article marketing? Feel free to read the tips and resource suggestions at the Article Marketing Resource Center.

Blog Traffic Tip #4 - Take advantage of the "trackback" option

Linking to other blog posts and then tracking back to their blog is a wonderful way to get more blog readers. This "trackback" to the other blog leaves a comment-like link back to your blog from the blog you linked to.

Make sure to spend an equal amount of time on adding content to your blog and on promoting your blog. Both are equally important for successful blogging, and both are dependent on the other for your blogs survival and growth.

Blogging regularly, daily or at least every other day, is important to keep readers coming back. Blogging sporadically, with little new content, can lead to blog death also.
    Good article.
