The typical response when a new blogger asks how often she should post new content to her blog is once a day but this is a fallacy that is often misunderstood. Yes, fresh daily content is a boon to your website it is often littered with downfalls that few understand and can cause more harm than good. Posting daily will, over time, begin making your posts sound forced and inconsequential. If you can provide good quality content on a daily basis then yes, feel free to post this often. If your content begins to dry out and the only reason you are posting it is to keep up with some invisible "quota" then once a day is drastically wrong for you.
In all honesty there are a few factors that will help you determine how often you should blog. These factors include:
How Much Will Your Niche Bear?
In some markets there is only so much new information that can be presented. Present that information in a factual manner in your blog and on a set schedule. You should only be posting information that is useful to your readers and worthwhile for them to take in, not forced or pointless information just to boost your post count and content amount.
What Makes You Comfortable?
You should only blog about something when you are comfortable doing so. Do not post just because you feel you need more content, if you are going to take the time to blog about something make sure it is something that is worthwhile for your readers and make sure that it is something you can write passionately about. If you are feeling forced to write then it will show in your writing and your information will come out poorly worded or awkwardly phrased. If, on the other hand, you are excited about a topic or feel passionately about what you are writing on, that will come through in your writing. Your readers will notice the difference and will gravitate towards blogs and posts that are written in the latter fashion.
Be Consistent
If you choose to write once a week, once a month, once a day, whatever, try and stay as consistent as possible. Your readers will come to your blog on a schedule that you set. If you begin posting on a daily basis and fall off due to boredom your readers will notice. They will have become accustomed to getting new content on a daily basis and will immediately notice if you start posting less regularly. Your readers will come to your blog based on the schedule of the content that you post so no matter how often that is, you should try and be as consistent as possible with your postings.
Not every blog needs to have dozens of posts each month or a post a day to be successful. Follow the above advice to help you decide how often you should post to your blog. Keep to a schedule as much as possible but make sure that everything you post is factual and worthwhile to your readers. Good luck on your blogging!
