Blogging with Blogger

If you've ever wanted to quickly start your own web log (blog), you've most likely seen the popular service known as blogger. Now owned by google, blogger started in the year 1999 by a company named Pyra Labs. Google later bought them in the year 2002.

Blogger is great for starting out, because it takes less than one minute to start up your blog. All you need is a google account and you are ready to go, no other sign up. Many themes also already come with blogger, so there is no need to find them online.

If you are into multiple blogging topics, then blogger is also great for you. Unlike some other online services, you can have as many blogs on one account as you want! It's not reccomended to put to many on one account, but you can easily have 20 blogs or so on one google account without any problems at all. Other services you will have to sign up multiple times, but blogger made it easy to have many blogs at once.

Another major plus about blogger is the fact that they have a lot quicker servers than a lot of other services. Even if you pay for your own hosting, your host will be most likely slower than blogger. Try going to a blog hosted on wordpress.com, and then on blogger.com, and you will sure see a big difference in the speed of the when the site loads. The simplicity of blogger is also a factor that has added to how quick blogger loads.

Blogger isn't without any cons though, even great things do have some problems. First of all, a limiting factor in blogger is that you can not create regular pages like in wordpress, so you can only show posts, and not have a "main page". Another problem with blogger is the fact that you can't create any categories for your blog posts, which is not very good for your blogs organization. Many other services have categories, so this is one thing that blogger has fallen behind on.

One last problem you may experience while using blogger is that it is hard to look like an independent blog. Even with a custom theme and your own domain, you still look like a blogger blog, which might not seem very professional at times. It's best that when your blog becomes a considerable size, you move onto running a script on your own server, as it just looks more professional.

All in all, blogger has more pros than cons. It's a great free service, and blogging would sure be different with out it. Once your site becomes bigger, it's best to move on, but blogger is great for any beginner blogger out in the world looking to start having their presence on the world wide web.
