Make More Money for You Business with a Blog

Blogs are a great tool for any business on the web. Blogs offer a variety of uses. Blogs are a great way to use keywords to get visitors to your site. Blogs are also a great way to keep customers updated about what's going on with your business. Blogs even help make your business seem friendlier. All and all blogs are a great asset to any business if used properly. Below are a few things you can do to get your businesses blog off to a good start.

Blogging for Business - Know your customers

You need to know who your customers are, what they would want to read, and how you are going to write that. Don't use your blog as another place to post news releases. You have a section on your website for that already. Use your blog to get personal with your customers. This will bring you down to earth in the eyes of your customer.

Create a unique writing voice and have opinions. People are bored with content that just sits on the fence. Have an opinion and don't be afraid of it. You may offend some people, but in the long run people will appreciate a true voice.

Blogging for Business - Create your blog

There is a wide variety of ways to add blogs to your website. You can buy software that builds a blog directly into your website or you can signup with one of the many blogging services on the internet. Most of these services have a free account that posts ads in your blogs, but you can easily upgrade for a small fee if you'd like.

I tend to recommend the internet blogging services for a few reasons. The first is that they are just easier to use. Especially if you have little to no HTML skills. These online blogs are usually created with a very friendly interface and user friendly.

Besides being easy to use, internet blogs let you post links back to your website. The more links you have going to your website the more popular it looks to search engines. To add one of these blogs to your website all you have to do is post a simple text link. It takes people off of your website, but at least it's an offsite page that you send them to.

Blogging for Business - Start Posting

Now that you have your blog setup it is time to start making some posts. Avoid the temptation to just start talking about how awesome your business is, what your business is doing now, or current news events. Instead, try to find something to which you can offer your own point of view on.

Check and see what other blogers in your industry are talking about and write a post with your opinion on it. Once you start getting some comments you can ask your readers what they would like to see in your blog. Ask them what they like and don't like. Then take that information with a grain of salt and work in into your next blog post if you can.

Blogging for Business - Start Blogrolling

What is blogrolling you ask? It is pretty much a fancy term for sharing links via blogs. You know when you are reading blogs and they have all those small pretty graphic links that take you to other blogs? That is blogrolling.

By trading links with other blogs in your industry it will help you both get more page views. If you have a good set of blogrolling links it will help create a good back and forth type web surfing done by your reader. Thus helping you and your blogrolling buddies.

Blogging for Business - Update regularly

Nothing is more detrimental to a blog than a lack of posts or posts that are irregular. Readers and customers get very disappointed when they find a new and exciting blog only to discover that it hasn't been updated in months.

So when you start a blog create an editorial calendar of sorts to remind you of when you need to blog. A good blog would make posts daily, but for businesses you can get away with one a week. If you are using your blog to get more traffic to your website you may need to post as often as 3 times a week. It is up to you how often you post, just make sure you do it so your readers have a reason to come back.
