Take the internet for example, I was confused but so willing to learn this cool, new thing called the World Wide Web. I remember when I first used the internet. It took about 30 minutes to load a page and there were only five websites: A search engine, an email service, a news/weather page, a fake/tabloid spam-like site, and a porn site. I didn't have internet at home, but was super excited when we got it at school. Instead of recess we would ask to send an email. Play a game? Nah. Free candy? No thanks. Send an email? Yeah! Woohoo! Of course it took us all day just to get to the email service webpage, click 'compose', think of who to send it to and what to write and then actually send it. The email pretty much went like this: "Hi, how are you? Ok, see you later!" It was officially the coolest thing ever, through email we could communicate instantly. We called the person we sent it to and asked if she got it, she had. Wow. She got it so much quicker than she would have had we sent it "snail mail" How did we ever live without it?
Of course, the internet is not the only piece of technological genius that I can remember when I first heard of it. I remember when DVD players came out, hell, I remember when CD players came out. Not quite old enough to remember when walkmans came out, but I did have one growing up (and a New Kids On The Block poster but that's another "blog"). I actually remember where I was and what I was doing when I first learned of DVD players, like it was some dramatic event in my life: "Let's see I remember where I was when I got my first kiss, when I first did something illegal, when my cat died, (my first blog...sniffle) and when I first found out about the wonder of DVD players." Which one doesn't fit in? Hmmm....Anyway, I was in the gym, watching a lunch-time basketball game. We were talking about going over to someone's house after school and my friend mentioned that her friend's parents had a DVD player. WOW. Ooooh, ahhhhh. Wait, what's a DVD player? My friend explained that it was like a VCR player (that's a video cassette recorder-VCR-for those real youngins' out there) in the fact that played movies, but the movies were on discs that looked like CD's. What?!? How can that be? That is so amazing! Needless to say, we went to that friend's house.
And now we are at the age of blogging. This new form of technology, merging regular people with the complicated World Wide Web, bringing together otherwise useless stories and information with millions of people who actually care, and giving people with an opinion but no one to listen to them with an outlet in which they are able to go on and on about whatever they like without being drowned out. Ahhh yes, the sweetness of blogging. I may be slow to catch on, but blogging is kinda cool and fun, I think I'll do it again.
Food? Nah. Sleep? No thanks. Blog? Yeah! Woohoo!
