Now, I am a yeshiva type of guy. In case you don't know what a yeshiva is, it is a Jewish thing. Men get together in a yeshiva and consider the Holy Scriptures. It is filled with guys interrupting one another and shouting over top of one another, but in my experience it is filled with substance and is fruitful. But the blogs we have today fall miserably short of a yeshiva type discussion.
Now I don't mind a lively discussion. In fact I greatly enjoy one. I usually blog on sites that are involved with Bible discussion and that is why the idea of a yeshiva comes to mind. The problem is when you get to asking questions that others don't want to, or can't answer, out comes the skinny kid with the taunts and name calling and red herring arguments that do not deal with the issue at hand. They are meant to distract from the real argument. It gets really mean. I guess sitting at home in the privacy of your bedroom, with nothing but a keyboard and screen in front of you makes some feel like they're a ten foot tall, bullet proof, genius. But in reality they are just the loud mouth skinny kid who doesn't know enough to keep quiet and can't fight his way out of a paper bag.
Now, when I blog I blog with a purpose. I really don't want to stir things up and make people mad at me. Someone is always mad at me for something I've said on the radio, in a Bible study, or some article I've written. I don't need to go looking for trouble. But when I blog I am on a mission. I want to impart Truth to people who are just like I was, and still am to a large degree, steeped in paganistic thought and practice, while professing to be a part of the body of Messiah, Jesus.
My mission is to give people the answer for the condition that they don't even know they have. I am an elder and a Bible teacher at my home churchand currently manage Christian radio stations, so blogging is a natural extension of what I do. The only remedy for this condition is to return to the Truth of God's Word, I mean all of it, from Genesis to Revelation. The problem on the blogs is that most want to pick and choose their favorite portions of the text and present it out of context. I can't blame them at first, because that is what we have all been taught for generations. But when you are presented a fact, in context with supporting Scripture, and you can't refute it by Scripture, you then resort to shooting the messenger. The whole thing gets a little dicey at that point.
So you would think that having said all this negative stuff about blogging that I would never blog again. Wrong, old keyboard breath (an Ed McMahon thing… Johnny Carson Show… you know… well maybe not). Any way I will keep doing it. I swear off of other blogs for awhile yet I usually go back. I'll sit on the sidelines and watch for awhile and then there is some post that I just can't pass up and I see my opening and here I go, down that long road again.
So, if you are out there in cyber space and you decide to drop in on a blog and find Banner Kidd on there, join in the discussion, but please, don't be the skinny, loud mouthed kid who knows nothing. I promise I won't be either. Happy blogging.

Post a CommentGood article, and very relevant as I am finding out. I had expected some mean responses to my opinions, but I wasn't prepared for the viciousness of it. In fairness, some of the postings and articles are about topics that will provoke strong opinions but the personal nature of some of the comments is too far. But hey, by nature I love a good debate. I just wish people were more civil and logical about it at times. But as you know, we are a deeply flawed creation and, at times, fall back on that default evil when we aren't vigilant.
