There are online options for authors and writers now. Some are participating in virtual book tours, which are book clubs or other site promoting the author's latest book with their picture and/or book cover with interview questions. There are also some recordings done to play the MP3, Flash, or Windows Media file later. Or you can hear the radio broadcast on the website link only. There are also book video trailers can be displayed on the virtual tour platform and website.

Most authors may not get radio and television appearances unless they have connections such as a publicist or media assistant. There are some authors, entrepreneurs, and businesses who hire a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants are capable of handling various takes, but not limited to, database management, email monitoring, writing agendas, memos, and meeting reports, correspondence via email and mail, spreadsheets, presentations, mail merges, Internet research, PDF conversions, travel arrangements, marketing, e-newsletters, and book marketing tools. They can also set dates for their radio and television appearances. Overall, most authors are avoiding some travel expenses by looking at virtual book tours without leaving the comfort of their homes, only on the phone that will be hosted online or free phone conference for others to join in the tour. There are others who are utilizing the online radio stations such as TalkShoe and BlogTalkRadio to name a couple that have became rather popular.

BlogTalkRadio is a free broadcast for members to sign in their accounts, enter in chat rooms that are available while listening to a live broadcast and/or to start their own radio shows. It allows the host to open the chat room for users to chat, switchboard to play MP3, podcasts, and WAV files on air, commercials, and past shows that are uploaded on your account file. You are also able to allow callers to be in the live broadcast on your switchboard while online. You can view email messages from users and add friends, or make them a favorite hosts, where you receive email alerts to your personal email to know when their next live show will be aired online or to call in to listen.

BlogTalkRadio also offers now premium services which is a monthly fee that gives the host more leverage and options that you do not have with the free service. Therefore, some authors are able to do live interviews or panel discussions at no charge, or may be asked to become a sponsor to help the costs of this service for the hosts. In other words, some hosts will ask for a minimal fee to their guest speakers and authors featured on their showcase. Authors have the option to find other BTR (BlogTalkRadio) shows that have no fees, or find the more popular ones that may charge a fee to have the author on their shows. Depending on the exposure you want as a new and aspiring artists or author, you will pick and choose the multi-media networks that are best options for you. Choose wisely, your brand, your name, and your work is on the line.
