Blokes & Birds Opens in Lakeview

I was anticipating the opening of Blokes & Birds Public House for months. This English fare eatery, located at 3343 North Clark Street in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, has been one of my favorite restaurants, ever since it opened in early November of 2010. My boyfriend and I both ordered the fish and chips, or should I say fish and fries, which were outstanding. The cauliflower and caramel and apples was amazing, and like nothing I've ever eaten. I've never even seen this combination on restaurant menus, anywhere. The fish was very light tasting and flaky and the coating or batter was crispy, but not hard. The pub-like cozy atmosphere, with wood paneled walls and the beautiful fireplace, added to the ambiance.

The staff was very friendly, and the service was fast. We also enjoyed the music, which was pretty much a mix of seventies music, mostly rock, but I was expecting a little more "British Invasion" type music like the Beatles and Dave Clark Five. Next time I go, I'd like to try the Lobster Bisque soup, and my boyfriend said he wanted to try the sausage (banger) platter.
