Blonde Ambition - a Movie Review

Blonde Ambition is a 2007 direct to video movie starring Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson. Jessica Simpson stars as Katie Gregerstitch, a small town girl who visits New York and becomes the pawn of two co-workers in their bid to get the president of their company fired. Warning: my review does contain spoilers.

I did not have high hopes for this movie because I just assumed it was a Legally Blonde rip-off with the same actor for a romantic interest. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Well besides Katie's affinity for pink, Blonde Ambition is completely different. I found the movie charming and cute. Yeah, there were some parts that I cringed at but overall I thought it was a great movie.

I thought Jessica Simpson did a decent job of acting in the movie. I found her lips to be like a car wreck, you can't quit staring even though you know you should. Luke Wilson plays his normal loveable slacker type character. Penelope Ann Miller was a nice surprise as the scheming co-worker. She plays the b word very well. I was sad to see Rachel Lee Cook being demoted to a side kick but she still did amazing in the small part she had.

Basic plot summary is small town girl gets heart broken by a jerk of a boyfriend, finds a job to boost her confidence, looses her job and her boss's job because of scheming co-workers, but then manages to save the day and gets a much better boyfriend. So the plot isn't Oscar worthy but it still is a pretty good romantic comedy. I have read some pretty bad reviews for this movie. All I can say is give the movie a chance and form your own opinion. I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

excerpt from my review: The word ambition is in the title, but it is ambition that the filmmakers seem to be lacking. Perhaps if they dared to go off of the beaten path and make an actual movie instead of a cliché ridden, rip off of improbable and downright stupid scenarios: well then maybe the movie would have opened theatrically nationwide and at least been eligible for a Razzie nomination. For those who claim this movie got a raw deal and isn't as bad as they say: errrrrt, wrong!
