Diplomacy Role-play: Johnny and Susan
1. Knowledge
Teacher says or asks: TELL three things for which Johnny got mad at Susan.
Students Respond:
* Taking too long in the bathroom
* Hogging the cereal box
* Picking a fight in the car.
2. Comprehension
Teacher says or asks: DESCRIBE what Johnny did and how Susan reacted each time.
Students Respond:Johnny snapped at Susan. Susan responded by using Accusing 'You' Statements at him.
3. Application
Teacher says or asks: DETERMINE why Susan's Accusing 'You' Statements only made Johnny feel angrier.
Students Respond:Those Accusing 'You' Statements made Johnny feel attacked. He got on the defensive. It made him feel guilty and put-down.
4. Analysis
Teacher says or asks: SPECIFY what technique Mom suggested Susan try and ANALYZE how effective that technique will be.
Students Respond:Mom suggested that Susan try using Diplomatic 'I' Statements called 'I Messages'. If Susan remains calm and respectful, those 'I Messages' have a good chance of getting Johnny to be nicer.

Teacher says or asks: PRETEND you are talking to one of your siblings and there are a bunch of you sitting in the car. Diplomatically handle the situation about one of the siblings does not want to have to sit on the hump.

6A. Evaluation
Teacher says or asks: Let us say that Susan tried all those techniques and Johnny still was acting mean. EVALUATE how Susan should handle things now.
Students Respond:Susan should ignore him for now. She should wait until a later moment when he has cooled down and then try again. She should continue to respectfully make her needs known and then stay out of his way as much as possible until he is ready to be respectful in return.
6B. Evaluation
Teacher says or asks: GIVE YOUR OPINION as to whether or not Mom should find a moment to teach Johnny those same schools. If so, when? If not, why not?
