1. Knowledge

Teacher says or asks: According to Grandma Jenkins, RECALL what caused frogs and news to come out of her grandchildren's mouths instead of gold coins?

Students Respond: Frogs and newts were caused by her grandchildren saying mean-spirited words. Gold coins were produced by her grandchildren saying nice things to people.

2. Comprehension

Teacher says or asks: Briefly SUMMARIZE this story in your own words.

Students Respond: Accept reasonable re-telling of this story.

3. Application

Teacher says or asks: DETERMINE why the pretty girl was treated kindly by the three gnomes and why the plain girl was not.

Students Respond: The pretty girl was kind, gentle, and shared her food. The plain girl was mean-hearted, sarcastic, and greedy with her food.

4. Analysis

Teacher says or asks: DETERMINE THE FACTORS that would cause you to have, figuratively speaking. of course, gold coins coming out of your mouth instead of frogs and newts? At school? At home? At the community center?

Students Respond: (Accept reasonable answers for school, home, and community center.)

5. Synthesis

Teacher says or asks: PRETEND you had a grandmother who did not approve of the mean things she heard you saying to another person in your family or to one of your friends. INVENT a different way she could have gotten her point across instead of talking about frogs and newts and gold coins.

Students Respond: (Accept Reasonable Answers.)

6. Evaluation

Teacher says or asks: EVALUATE Grandma Jenkins' suggestion and the suggestions you just heard. GIVE YOUR OPINION about which is the best suggestion that could help you remember to NOT say mean things to other people.

Students Respond: Accept Reasonable Answers.
