Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania - Learn About Bloomsburg University's Famous Town
Neighborhood: Bloomsburg

While the university itself offers many events, activities, and clubs to keep students entertained, sometimes, it feels good to get off campus and explore.

The town offers plenty of fun as well. There are many restaurants, bars, and shops downtown, which is a short walk. One of the oldest and most popular bars was just renovated and is now HUGE! The new Harry's offers lots of seating and dancing in its very lounge-like NYC'esque atmosphere upstairs, and a very chill relaxed sports bar atmosphere downstairs. There are a bunch of other cool bars downtown, including a new micro-brewery, which I have heard has awesome beer and food! In the mood to enjoy nature? Take a ten minute walk down to the Bloomsburg Park with beautiful views of the Susqehanna River. The entire park, including playgrounds, large fields, a town pool, tennis courts, baseball fields, a skatepark, bbq grills, a band shell, a large pond, and lots of tall trees all run along the river.

Downtown and on the highway nearby, there is every type of chain restaurant/fast-food place you've ever dreamed of, a delicious burrito place, lots of pizza, sub restaurants, Chinese restaurants, a Thai restaurant, a warm welcoming wine shop, convenience stores, dollar stores, boutiques, crafts, and knickknack shops, a big movie theater, a play/musical theater, a Salvation Army which really comes in handy for cheap furniture if you decide to be an in-town apartment dweller during your years at Bloomsburg, a roller-skating rink, and a couple bowling alleys. And do not fear! There is a Super-Walmart just a five minute drive away, which is located near a small mall and more restaurants!

Feel like driving out of town on a Saturday or Sunday? You're in luck! The towns surrounding Bloomsburg are not city-like, but being a person who was born in raised fifteen minutes from NYC, this was a breath of fresh air for me. I loved my time in Bloomsburg and miss it like crazy. Some of my favorite memories are visiting the local family amusement park, Knoebels, hiking at local state parks, visiting farms during the fall, enjoying hay rides under the moonlight, corn mazes, pumpkin picking, and fresh farm food and crafts.

Bloomsburg is also famous for its week long Bloomsburg Fair in the fall, one of the biggest fairs you'll ever see! There is so much food and shopping that there are street signs within the fair. You won't be able to see everything in one day! There is also a strong sense of country including animals, tractor pulls, derbies, horse and animal shows, and freshly made apple dumplings, which are to die for! All week long, there are a number of shows and famous musicians and bands that perform for all the fair-goers. You do NOT want to miss out on the fair. It's quite the experience!

The town of Bloomsburg also provides a fun Halloween parade, lots of wintry events around Christmas, and a spring Renaissance fair. Needless to say, when you're not studying and getting your schoolwork done, you will not be bored!
