BLT Recipes that Will Rock Your Taste Buds

Amy Brantley
BLTs are certainly a classic lunch option, but that doesn't mean you have to use the same old ingredients. BLTs can be made with ingredients that give the sandwich flavor combinations that will truly rock your taste buds.

Roasted Garlic Salmon BLT

4 ounce filet of salmon
Sea salt, to taste
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
Dried rosemary, to taste
Olive oil
2 thick slices of homemade honey wheat bread, toasted
Roasted garlic mayonnaise
4 slices of bacon, cooked
Romaine lettuce
Tomato

1. Season the salmon with the salt, pepper and rosemary and saute in olive oil until a golden brown crust forms on the outside.

2. Spread the slices of bread with a generous amount of roasted garlic mayonnaise and top with the bacon, lettuce and tomato.

3. Season the tomato slices with additional salt and pepper and top with the other slice of bread.

4. Serve with homemade potato chips.

Tips:

Garlic mayonnaise can be purchased at the store, but if you can't find it, simply allow freshly roasted garlic to cool to room temperature and mix it with store bought or homemade mayonnaise to create your own.

Dill can be substituted for rosemary.

Blackened Chicken BLT

4 ounce trimmed, boneless chicken breast
Blackening seasoning, to taste
Olive oil
2 thick slices of sourdough bread, toasted
Green onion mayonnaise
4 slices of black pepper bacon, cooked
4 ounces of blue cheese crumbles
Romaine lettuce
Tomatoes
Sea salt, to taste
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste

1. Season the chicken breast with blackening seasoning and saute in olive oil until cooked through.

2. Spread the slices of sourdough bread with the green onion mayonnaise and top with bacon, blue cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.

3. Season the tomatoes with the salt and pepper and top with the other slice of bread.

4. Serve with homemade potato chips.

Tips:

Green onion mayonnaise is easy to create. Thinly slice the green part of the green onions and stir into homemade or store bought mayonnaise. It helps to taste the onions before stirring them in to judge their flavor intensity. That way, you don't overpower the mayonnaise.

There you have it. These BLTs are far from classic and are sure to please your taste buds. Just remember that the quality of the ingredients is what really counts. Just because these are sandwiches, doesn't mean you should use cheap ingredients. Skip the packaged bread and bland mayonnaise and use gourmet ingredients that will rock your taste buds.
