Taste and Appearance
Manufactured in Brenham, Texas, Mocha Madness is a combination of coffee ice cream spotted with roasted pecans, chocolate pieces and swirls of smooth caramel. The ice cream has a mild coffee taste, but sweetened chocolate is the prominent flavor. The texture is not as smooth and creamy as other Blue Bell ice creams and has an icy, grainy quality. I could not get a solid scoop without the ice cream developing a crumbly texture. The entire carton of Mocha Madness has this odd texture.
Surprisingly, it has too many mix-ins. Between the pecans, chocolate chunks and ribbons of caramel, it is difficult to experience the ice cream. The extras detract from the quality and flavor I expect from Blue Bell products.
Nutrition Content of Mocha Madness
One half gallon contains sixteen ½-cup servings. Each serving has 200 calories with 100 calories from fat, 11 grams total fat, 6 grams saturated fat, 30 milligrams cholesterol, 105 milligrams sodium, 20 grams carbohydrates, less than 1 gram fiber, 18 grams sugar and 4 grams protein.
Room for Improvement
According the FAQs on BlueBell.com, the company does not use best by dates because storage conditions have the greatest impact on freshness. I understand poor handling can negatively affect the ice cream, trumping a best by date. However, that date is a reliable indicator of freshness at the point of purchase.
Blue Bell offers dozens of regular and seasonal flavors. I would love to see some of the seasonal flavors available in pints. The half gallons typically cost nearly $7, making it expensive to try new flavors.
Final Thoughts
Blue Bell makes many delicious flavors of ice cream, but Mocha Madness is not one of them. I prefer mocha ice cream with more of a coffee kick and creamier texture. I will not buy this flavor again, but will gladly continue to try classic and new Blue Bell products in the future.

Post a CommentI can't believe they pulled the MOCHA MADNESS?!? I loved it although I only tried it once. I couldn't find it after that. Last Christmas I saw it, bought it, and devoured it. Please, pretty please, bring it back.
mocha madness is your best EVER whoever tested it said it was bad is NUTS pardon the PUN PLEASE BRING IT BACK
Thanks for commenting, everyone. Mocha Madness isn't currently on the list of Bluebell flavors. Be sure to contact them directly if you're a fan. Maybe you can persuade them to reintroduce the flavor. Bluebell Mocha Almond Fudge is a March flavor and should be easy to find right now.
Mocha Madness is great. Granted, I did get that funky texture, but as the ice cream warmed up a bit, it became creamier. It coould have been that the ice cream sat in the freezer too long; it was the last bucket left when I purchased it. The taste, however, was fantastic and I am a fan. I don't know when or if it will come back again, but I did find a substitute: Mocha-Fudge and Almonds. OMG, that ice cream is incredibly addictive.
Mocha Madness is the best flavor of ice cream I have had outside of Maine. I was devastated to find that it had been rotated out of the line of flovors.
Are you kidding? Mocha Madness is the BEST Blue Bell flavor! I wait patiently for it be released each year...So creamy, and delicious. If you like coffee, chocolate and caramel, you will LOVE this flavor!
I don't know who wrote this review, but they must have eaten an old carton or something....trust me, Mocha Madness is seriously delicious!
I've never heard of it out here. Great review and good ideas, thanks S.
thanks for the fair and honest review - Blue Bell will hopefully read this and realize that their customers WOULD APPRECIATE a pint size so that we could try before we buy the larger boxes. Great idea, cheers :)
