Blue Bunny Butter Pecan Ice Cream

Not What I Expected

Donna Noble
While I was in college, I spent two years working part time in a dairy bar to help pay for school. During those two years, I developed a taste for butter pecan ice cream. Something about the taste is comforting to me and I have even been known to make my own by mixing vanilla ice cream, butterscotch syrup, and pecans. Still every time I see a carton of butter pecan ice cream in the store I am tempted to buy it but usually I don't because my husband does not like it. However, when I noticed that Blue Bunny now makes Butter Pecan I had to buy it.

For my money Blue Bunny ice cream is the best on the market. While I enjoy other brands, Blue Bunny has never disappointed me so I keep going back for more. I have to admit that I was excited to try the Butter Pecan flavor . As advertised this flavor combines vanilla ice cream flavored with butterscotch. In addition there are pecan pieces sprinkled throughout. The taste of Blue Bunny Butter Pecan was not what I expected. I had hoped for a richer flavor from this ice cream based on the flavor of all the others in this line but I was slightly disappointed. Most of the butter pecan ice creams I have had in the past have ribbons of butterscotch syrup running through them but this one did not. Perhaps if these ribbons of butterscotch had been included in the recipe I may have found the flavor more appealing.

Blue Bunny Premium Butter Pecan Ice Cream has 150 calories per ½ cup serving. If you are someone concerned with keeping your sugar in check Blue Bunny also has a No Sugar Added Reduced Fat Butter Pecan. The reduced fat option has slightly fewer calories per serving. The leading ingredients in this ice cream are milk and cream and not artificial flavors.

While I was not completely satisfied with this purchase it is one of the better versions of this flavor on the market so I will probably buy it again in the future. The smooth texture and easy scooping make this a truly premium blend. Blue Bunny Butter Pecan Ice Cream can be found in most grocery stores and some convenience stores. Blue Bunny Ice cream retails for about $3.50 for a nice size container. For a full list of Blue Bunny Flavors including the no sugar added line check out Blue Bunny's website www.bluebunny.com
