The Blue Collar Workforce Deserves a Lot More Respect

It is a shame that blue collar workers are often regarded as inferior humans, when in fact they often do the work society needs while often working in unsafe difficult conditions with no fringe benefits. Living in Florida it is amazing to see them working in the hot summer sun all day. It is an irony that so many white collar office workers, feeling so safe and smug after working for years in their cubicles only to be given the pink slip at the latest budget cutback. Many blue collar workers perform essential services that must continue regardless of economic conditions.

The blue collar workforce deserves a lot more respect. People with little education or a criminal record are unable to apply for anything besides blue collar work. People in high unemployment areas must take any work available to survive. Some blue collar jobs require an apprenticeship program before hiring, and although this is not as long as getting a college education, it serves the same purpose.
