Blue Fingers

Walton S. Tissot
Three thousand donkeys
Deployed logistic tally
Toting through the insurgence
Fully commissioned
Shuffle the coalition
Afghans stand to have a vote

I didn't know they used donkeys. In any event, whether metaphor or truth, the juxtaposition of donkeys with democratic elections is interesting. We tend to think of Democracy as an advanced, civilized, American invention. When, as I know you certainly know, the Greeks tried it to their detriment several millennia ago. And as for America, what the founding father's build was a model to protect individuals from democracy.

I usually put a little description on the poem profile page; but they only allow 2oo+ charecters so I can't describe to much.

Your explanation here helps to clarify your thinking in this poem, thanks for sharing. Great poem.

Whew! Glad I misinterpreted this one! The "poor critters" I was reading about were blown up! What an interesting paradox that donkeys are used to impede democracy and to further it! Even better poem now that I understand it better!

yes indeed its hard to be an ass! lol I was reading a report on the elections and they wrote that the ballots were being brought in for counting on donkeys. Inspired the whole poem. Titled blue fingers because to vote they dip their finger in ink to mark the ballots.

I had to go look up Afghani donkeys. Sometimes I am glad to be sporadic in my world news awareness. Poor critters.
