Blue Moon New Years Eve and Partial Eclipse

Stacey Doyle
A blue moon New Years Eve sounds like it might have a double meaning. In reality, there will be a blue moon New Years Eve 2010 and a partial eclipse. What does a blue moon New Years Eve and partial eclipse mean?

First of all, a blue moon New Years Eve does not mean the moon will actually be the color blue. The moon is only blue if there is dust from volcanic activity, which is not the reason for this blue moon New Years Eve. Fox News reports the blue moon New Years Eve will be the second full moon in North America this month. The term for this occurrence is "blue moon".

Beside a blue moon New Years Eve, there will be a partial eclipse. It will not be visible from North or South America but can be seen in Asia, Africa and Europe. To find out more about the blue moon New Years Eve and times for the partial eclipse, visit Fox News.

Do you have New Years Eve traditions? We like to watch the ball drop in Times Square, probably because we're New Yorkers. This year Ryan Seacrest will be doing the countdown. I still miss Dick Clark but it seems even New Years traditions change. This year, we will probably be watching the blue moon new years eve along with the television. After all, it only happens once in a blue moon (pun, as always, intended).

Happy New Year 2010! However you spend it, be safe, happy and healthy.

Meanwhile, I can't resist posting a YouTube video of Sha Na Na singing "Blue Moon" for the 1978 hit movie "Grease": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RS7ml22O_Y
