Blue Mountain Lake, New York: Campgrounds
Camping near Blue Mountain Lake, New York is a great way to get the full experience of the Adirondack Mountains. There are several New York state-run campgrounds in the Blue Mountain Lake area, offering both tent sites and full cabin rentals. Lake Durant Campground is closest to most of the local attractions at Blue Mountain Lake. There is a beach area and several picnic tables that can be used by campers during the day. To find Lake Durant, you can take either Route 28 or 30 and you will come upon signs to the campground. If you prefer a cabin or lodge rental, be sure to call ahead and make reservations, especially during the busy summer season. Cabin rentals at Blue Mountain Lake are limited and generally fill up quickly.
Blue Mountain Lake, New York: Hiking trails
The hiking trails of the Blue Mountain Lake area offer something for hikers of any ability level. Buttermilk Falls is the easiest trail and includes a breathtaking waterfall for your family to enjoy. Even small children should be able to handle this short hike through the Adirondack Mountains. The Blue Mountain trailhead on Route 30 or 28 is a more challenging hike. Two miles long and up a moderately steep incline, the Blue Mountain hiking trail will give you a great view of the Adirondack Mountains from up high on the peak. The most challenging hiking trail in Blue Mountain Lake, New York is the Northville-Placid trail. This trail heads past Blue Mountain Lake and covers a distance of 133 miles. This trek takes approximately 19 days to complete, so plan accordingly and bring the right equipment.
Blue Mountain Lake, New York: Water sports
If you prefer water sports in the Adirondacks, Blue Mountain Lake has plenty to offer. There are canoe rentals available right there in the park or kayakers can bring in their own vessel. If you rent a boat from the Blue Mountain Boat Livery, they will even deliver it out to your campground so you can enjoy the waters of the other nearby lakes. Besides Blue Mountain Lake, Lake Durant, and Long Lake can be enjoyable for day's excursion.
