What you should know before you go:
Finding a parking spot in the Historic Old Market District can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. There is on street parking but it fills up fast. There are private parking lots within a two block area so remember to bring change for the parking meters and some singles for the parking lots if necessary. Many lots charge six dollars but it is much less than the sixteen dollar parking ticket you can receive if you forget to feed the meter. (I know this from personal experience!)
When to go:
Blue Sushi Sake Grill is open Monday through Thursday 11:00 until 10:00 pm. Fridays and Saturdays their hours are 11:00 am until midnight. Sundays they are open from noon until 9:00 pm. Blue Sushi Sake Grill also has happy hour beginning at 4:30 pm during the week and 10:30 pm on the weekends in their lounge where they offer drink specials and selected sushi and appetizer discounts.
Why you should go:
Personally, I don't care for fish so when a restaurant that specializes in fish impresses me I think that says a lot. Blue Sushi Sake Grill provides the total package. The staff are well groomed and professional and didn't seem to hate their job and loathe their customers. The restaurant is very clean., with comfortable tables that were not placed too close together. I enjoyed just sitting at our table enjoying the unique atmosphere. The deep blue wall complemented the projected surfing footage on the adjacent wall. The music was not overly loud which is often the case in restaurants trying to be trendy. The front of the restaurant is windows so if you are not fortunate enough to get a window seat you can still see out very well and enjoy the ambience of the Old Market.
If you have to go:
It has been said many times that you can tell the quality of a restaurant by their restrooms. I agree that it is logical that if an establishment does not care about their patrons (and employees) need for a clean lavatory then they might not take particular care in the kitchen either. The ladies room of Blue Sushi Sake Grill was not only clean, well stocked and roomy it was in keeping with the theme of the restaurant. The walls were papered in what appeared to be Asian newspapers , the music was piped in and the lighting was not typical lighting but with red bulbs. The red light made it a bit dim but not overly so.
What to order when you go:
The menu at Blue Sushi Sake Grill is expansive. There are numerous offerings for not only sushi but for chicken and beef dishes as well. Upon arrival the wait staff brings cucumber water to the customer. Light, crisp and fresh it goes well with all of the menu choices. For an appetizer we ordered the Edamame. These baby soybeans in the pod were delicious. They tasted like a cross between snow peas and peanuts. Lightly sprinkled with sea salt this was a nice appetizer that was not too heavy. The Japanese Miso soup was delicious with tofu, scallions and mushrooms. As I said I am not a fan of fish, I did take note though that my son thoroughly enjoyed his platter of sushi that consisted of salmon, tuna and whitefish. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Breast with Coconut Jasmine Rice and Lychee Mandarin Salsa. My dinner was served with obvious care taken with presentation. The chicken was tender and very pleasing. The coconut jasmine rice is one of the best rice dishes I have ever had. Smooth with just a hint of sweetness. I highly recommend it.
If you are in the Omaha area and want an enjoyable dining experience you should try Blue Sushi Sake Grill. I doubt you'll be disappointed!
