Blueberries are even known for their ability to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of cancer. (Source: Gardenersnet.com) Over time, we've seen more cereals, granolas, and other healthy drinks incorporate more blueberries into their products. Let's face it, although we love to eat delicious, sweet fruits like blueberries, every once in awhile, we crave them in a different form instead of straight from the carton out of the grocery store.
It wasn't until recently I learned of the fact that blueberries can help with our brain power and moods. This is evident to me every time I look at blueberries or anticipate eating them, I smile. But there's more to eat than just one's our reaction to the fruit.
While our brain power and moods seem to be different areas of our being, they are, in fact, cultivated in the same region - our brains. While intelligence level, memory, and mood swings have their own separate homes within the brain, they are still roommates...so to speak.
Due to the blueberries massive amounts of vitamins A, B-complex, C, magnesium, selenium, zinc, potassium, and a host of other nutrients, they are without a doubt an excellent superfood that can keep us healthy, smart, and happy. (Source: Organicfacts.net)
How does the blueberry perform this magnificent feat of boosting our brains? Blueberries trigger something in our brains called neurons that help keep our thinking caps in tip-top shape. They basically strengthen the brain through sending it signals to get stronger. How amazing is that? (Source: Seattlepi.com/Health)
Feeling down in the dumps? Have to cram for that final exam this week? Grab a bunch of blueberries for a smoothie, shortcake, or simple fruit salad to help pull you back into the game of life with more joy and more clarity. The comfort is knowing that a simple fruit such as blueberries can boost one's health in so many different ways with no side effects at all.
The great physician, Hippocrates said it best, "Let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food."
