Amazon Parrots are known for their wonderful vocal abilities. They are perhaps the second best vocalists around with the African Grays as the best. The Amazon Parrots are popular because they are capable of learning a large vocabulary, and they can also do more than just talk! Whistling, singing, and mimicking household sounds are another one of their specialties. The Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot is actually one of the best Amazon parrots with the ability of speech and sounds.
The Blue-Fronted Parrot is in average 15 inches in length - just an average size for a parrot. The Blue-Fronted Parrot is mostly green; however, they have a bright-blue forehead which is probably where their name derives from. They also have blue and white feathers on their crown, and are definitely a beautiful species. They have yellow on ears, cheeks, and crown as well while their wings are generally red or yellow.
The Blue-Fronted Parrot is a highly intelligent species; however, they can also be quite moody at times. Males are generally more aggressive and moody when they reach maturity, and may sometimes even bites. Females and males are both generally more moody when they reach sexual maturity or when they are molting. It is important to keep the Blue-Fronted Parrot supervised at all times when they are out of their cage. The Blue-Fronted Parrot is, however, easy to train, and should bond easily with their owner. However, if they are improperly cared for, the Blue-Fronted parrot may actually become rather aggressive.
The diets of wild and captive Blue-Fronted Amazon parrots differ a bit. For example, in the wild, a Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot will enjoy feeding on fruits, seeds, and vegetables; however, in captivity, nuts and seeds should be kept to a minimum while the fruits and vegetables can stay in their diet. Nuts and seeds should be kept to a minimum because they tend to cause obesity in captive parrots.
The Blue-Fronted Parrot should be kept in a cage - the larger the better. The minimum size requirement for the cage is around 24inches x 26inches x 24inches. They also require many toys and chew things inside the cage to keep them entertained. They should have lots of space to climb and move around. Also, they adore the water, and may occasionally be bathed; however, their flight feathers should be trimmed.
The Blue-Front Parrot is definitely one of the most popular pets out there, and definitely a great choice to have as a household pet. It is important to do your research and find out how to care and treat for the Blue-Front Parrot properly.
