Blues Brothers - a Cult Classic - Review

Blues Brothers is a fun-filled comedy movie about Jake and Elwood Blues, two brothers who are, as they say, "on a mission from God." The story starts out with the release of Jake from prison. Elwood picks up Jake in order to take him to see "The Penguin", a nun who raised them in a catholic school which they are about to visit. They then find out that the school will be closed and sold to the school board unless the tax of $5,000 is raised in 11 days. The two brothers decide to attempt to raise the money, and begin their hilarious, somewhat satirical adventure, of putting their old blues band back together to play one final gig. Watch Blues Brothers to find out if they ever raise the money!

This movie is a very funny movie but you must appreciate the sense of humor. It is not the sort of movie where you will be gasping for air laughing, but the movie all together is what makes it funny. The ridiculous plot constitutes most of the laughs, while character development and new character introduction takes up most of the other funny parts. The over-the-top comedy style is sure to leave you wanting more.

Unfortunately, I have to end on a bad note saying that some of the humor was very predictable, and knowing that the film cost what it did ($30M), one could have expected more from the movie.
