Blues Guitar Prodigy Tallan Latz, 9, Should Tour with Eric Clapton

Latz Says He Wants to Be the Best Blues Guitar Player that Ever Lived; He Might Get There

The 2009 season of America's Got Talent (NBC 9/8C Tues and Weds) seems to be the best year yet for promising new talent with hopes of landing a show in Las Vegas. One of the most incredible talents to audition for any season of America's Got Talent is 9-year-old Tallan Noble Latz from Elkhorn, Wisconsin who played blues guitar on the Tuesday, July 14, episode. In case you missed it, check out this NBC video of Tallan Noble Latz's blues guitar playing audition. Tallan Noble Latz and his soulful blues guitar twanging blew away the judges and the audience.

Tallan Noble Latz said he has been playing guitar for about four years. Latz gave a list of blues musicians that inspired his guitar playing and in true blues soul fashion, he included the best ever Stevie Ray Vaughn as an inspiration. Latz told the judges that he wanted to become the best guitar player that ever lived, and from the looks and sound of it, little 9-yr old Tallan might achieve his goal. When America's Got Talent Host Nick Cannon asked Tallan Noble Latz's father Carl if he encouraged Latz to play in the blues genre, his father replied that it was Tallan who turned him on to the blues!

It turns out that Tallan Latz already has an impressive gig and endorsement bio but not without controversy. Check out this ABC WISN TV report about the talent and success of Tallan Latz. Tallan Latz has played blues guitar with the likes of Les Paul and Jackson Browne. Latz even played in some nightclubs and bars on the blues music circuit, including House of Blues in Chicago. In August 2008, the Chicago Tribune reported that Latz's parents and some club owners were warned to stop allowing Latz to play his soulful blues guitar in Midwest clubs because of a Wisconsin law that bars minors from playing "in a roadhouse, cabaret, dance hall, night club, tavern or other similar place. ..."

That is not stopping Tallan Latz from his dream to become the best guitar player that ever lived. Latz made it to Las Vegas on America's Got Talent and no matter what the Wisconsin law is, blues fans will not see the last of Tallan Noble Latz on the blues concert circuit. Tallan Latz is already booked for festivals, has endorsement deals, and is booked for special appearances at local concert gigs.

Eric Clapton should consider taking Latz under his wing and having Latz open the concert shows for his next tour. Lucky for Latz, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood just ended their summer concert tour with the last show on June 30 at the Hollywood Bowl. Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood go back 40 years and, according to critics and fans, Eric Clapton was in especially peak fine form during this summer tour. So, who better to mentor and shape the next best blues guitarist in the world than Eric Clapton? Clapton is also a Stevie Ray Vaughn fan and has made occasional stage appearances with Stevie Ray Vaughn's brother Jimmie Vaughn.

Watch for Tallan Latz in the upcoming America's Got Talent Las Vegas episodes and get ready for some amazing talent!

I saw this kid on America's Got Talent. I wish I had that level of commitment when I was his age. There's no way I could have played guitar that well after only four years. It's great that he's getting out there and playing in front of people. He could very well be the future of the blues. It's great that a 9-year-old loves Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Bonamassa. He's not listening to the Jonas Brothers or some crap like that. He just listens to what he likes and doesn't let other people tell him what he should listen to.

    Sounds like terrific fun :)

if you really listen, the kid is without a doubt a good player. But he only plays one scale riff, and it isnt too clean. and to say he should all of a sudden play with clapton is absurd. he is good, but not nearly that good. too much too fast for a decent guitar player.

    That kid is amazing!

That's so cool. Only 9? Wow!
