I recently had the pleasure of visiting the El Contacto Pub and Café at 1715 Bacacay in the Flores neighborhood of Buenos Aires. This cozy, family owned blues bar features Blues music every Friday and Sunday, as well as Saturday night shows. Top Blues music performers come there to let loose and jam. The musicians were great and I found myself tapping my foot and playing air bass to my favorite blues tunes. The setting at the El Contacto Pub is intimate and there is plenty of opportunity to meet the musicians after the show.
El Samovar De Rasputin is an off the beaten path Blues bar in Buenos Aires (Telephone number: 4302-3190). Their address is 1251 Del Valle Iberlucea in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires. This eclectic blues bar is a favorite after hours spot for locals (2am - 5am). El Samovar De Rasputin is easily accessible by bus (#53) or by taxi. This neighborhood is filled with tourists during the day as it is in the center of the famous multi-colored houses on Caminito Street. At night however, the tourists and vendors leave the area pleasantly vacated. The Blues musicians are top quality and the atmosphere is extremely casual. Feel free to pet the dogs, make out with your significant other or get up and dance.
Although I have not been there myself, people have recommended the Elwood Jazz and Blues Bar. The address is 232 Gaona Ave. Named after the famous movie character in The Blues Brothers, this Blues bar features live music on Saturday's.
There are many more Blues music venues for you to enjoy in the fantastic city of Buenos Aires. Performers sing the classics in English and they also sing in Spanish. You will feel like you left South America and were teleported to Chicago. To find out where other Blues music shows are visit the websites of the following renowned Buenos Aires Blues musicians and go to their next gig. Follow the links of these professional Blues musicians for the most current information: Gabriel Gratzer, Adrian Jimenez, Javier Goffman, Mauro Diana and Daniel Ruffo.
