Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced that it approved the new standard. The standard should be more secure, require less power and easier to use. Connecting devices, for example, will be more consistent, and more friendly for users.
This version sets new standards for connecting devices, allows more precise scanning, and more secure authentications when using the Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR simplifies the connection of devices, improves security, and increases the hopes of consumers that in the future the Bluetooth devices will be connected in seconds.
This statement was made by company officials at Bluetooth SIG, and it seems to be the plan for the future there. The chargers contained in the devices that use this adapter, and also in the mouses or keyboards should last by at least five times longer than now, by using this new standard.
With 13 million compatible Bluetooth devices, delivered each week, and 1 billion devices sold already this improvement is making everybody happy. The Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR also contains the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which allows users to connect devices easier using the new standard.
The NFC, is a new technology that was implemented in the Bluetooth devices, that allows that two devices that are using the new Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR standard, to connect automatically, with out the need of the users to even enter the phone menu. The devices need to be about 2 inches one from another in order to detect each other, and start communicating. Basically, the whole process is automatic, the device users do not need to do anything but wait for the two devices to be connected, and they can easily transfer data.
It is expected that Broadcom, CSR, Infineon and Texas Instruments to create very soon chips compatible with the new standard, and it is likely that the new products will reach the market by the end of the year.
Still, we will need to wait some time before this technology will be available in mobile phones, because it is expensive at the moment, and it requires some extra components, but we all know how technology evolves in this area, Nokia announced a prototype already, the 6131, which is supposed to be equipped with the new device. Other companies are also in the race to come out with a mobile device that will use the new standard.
