Since my job requires me to frequently drive all over the Commonwealth, I live in and work for Virginia, I have a need for a hands free device on my cell phone. Until now I have always used a corded headset to fulfill this role. Corded sets worked but they had their drawbacks, namely that the cords would inevitably get tangled up, and, after a short while, become frayed and cut.
For some time I had been kicking around the idea of switching over to Bluetooth but my Verizon contract kept me from obtaining a new phone which would support the new technology. Also there was the drawback of price and reliability. Bluetooth was "new tech" so its cost was high and "new tech" inevitably is full of bugs and problems. To be honest, I would rather allow these to be solved with someone else paying the bill. I tend to hold back until the new technology has had the problems ironed out and the price begins to fall to affordable levels.
After acquiring our new Motorola L7c's I checked with Verizon and found the costs of Bluetooth sets to have dropped to "average citizen" affordable levels at that time. I then checked around, read reviews and settled on the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset and I purchased two of them from Verizon online.
Verizon shipped them promptly and I had little trouble matching the Bluetooth sets to each cell phone. I do suggest that, if you buy one of these H500 sets, you carefully read both its instructions and your cell phone's instructions for doing this first. As long as you do so you should have no problem.
Since then I have had no real problems with my Verizon cell phone and Bluetooth headset. My only complaint is the large main button on the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset. It is very easily pushed while the headset is stored in my shirt pocket. This activates the "voice dialing" feature on my phone which then proceeds to interpret any sounds it hears as dialing commands. I did not find the nine hour call to my office voice mail amusing last weekend. Thankfully it was during Verizon's "free nights and weekends" time frame.
Otherwise I have found this combination of phone and Bluetooth device to be very effective and handy. The calls are clear and people I speak with can hear me fine. I use it on a daily basis. I have never had the battery go dead on me but I make a point of charging it overnight.
I hope I have given you some useful information here. While I found these devices personally effective I do encourage you to shop around and read other reviews. Good luck.
