We are staying at Bluffs RV Resort which is part of (They call it the sister company.) Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort in Freedom, New Hampshire.

We found it doing searches for adult campgrounds. There are very few in New England. Bluffs RV Resort is for people over 50 or at least one of the party must be over 50. People under 21 cannot use any of the Bluffs' facilities.

The Bluffs has 250 sites over 150 acres. It overlooks Huckins Pond and Danforth Bay of Ossippee Lake. That means there are many water sports. For people staying in the Bluffs use of a kayak or canoe along with life preservers and paddles is free. We went out twice. If you come here I suggest you get on the water and explore. There is more to the inlet than you will see at first.

The sites are among the largest I have seen. They are all on a nicely done gravel lots with trees. We have a very private site but if you prefer to have lots of neighbors you can have those too and they won't be right on top of you. The area is beautiful. I just walked to the Bluffs' fitness room which also houses a kitchen and function/activity room (The fireplace lounge) with a giant television. This is the 10,000 square foot Clubhouse which also has showers and laundry rooms.

There are two warm salt water pools. One is a lap pool. Every day at 2:00 you can join in on the pool fun (bring your noodle or beach ball). There is a shed that houses the bocce and horseshoe equipment as well as a couple of tennis racquets and balls for the pristine tennis courts. Most people here are seasonal so the camaraderie is really nice. The campers make it a point to be friendly to those they don't know. You won't find tent sites or cabins at the Bluffs. They have one RV for rent.

Every site has a picnic table and a beautiful fire ring that makes cooking over it actually appetizing! All sites have water, sewer, and electric. A one week stay will run you about $45.00 a night. You'll have WiFi and cable.

There are a couple of hiking trails but the staff in the Depot (The store/check in building) didn't really have a whole lot of information other than the one we went on. This is the one most people do although on this morning we saw only one family at the top of Mary's Mountain. As you enter on the left there is a storage area for RVs and staff parking. Park where the staff does and walk to the right. You'll see a sign that says Mary's Mountain. The trail is well maintained and marked at first by ties around trees and then blue on trees so it would be impossible to get lost. It was fairly challenging only because it went pretty much straight up but again on a nice trail though it was a bit rocky. For an easier way down when you get to the top keep following (after you take in the views) the blue marks and it will take you down an easy path. You can continue from the kiosk you'll find but I can't tell you where the trail goes to. The store had no trail maps but I would ask again because they said that they did at one time. Another tip is that on the top you will find so many blueberry bushes you'll want to go back up day after day to collect them. Just remember that blueberries are seasonal.

The Bluffs is about a half hour drive from North Conway. We did a one hour loop in that area going through the Kancamagus Scenic Byway. You'll have plenty to do though at the campground with Bingo, movies, sports lessons - it seems that if you want it they'll make it available if possible.

The Bluffs at Danforth Bay is located at196 Shawtown Road, Freedom, New Hampshire.

Danforth Bay is a traditional campground meaning the sites are not over sized but it isn't traditional in terms of the activities offered. There are 3 pools one of which has a slide going into it. There's a snack bar and planned printed weekly activities which you will get when you check in. Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort is rated 5 stars by Woodall's.
