BMW, as an automaker, has produced perhaps the most rounded, balanced lineup of vehicles of any automaker in the world. As such, selecting their top ten vehicles of all time is a daunting task. There are countless stellar models to choose from, but a few stand out even among the standards of BMW.
In no particular order you will find the top ten BMW models of all time listed below. Some are icons of the past, some are still around today, but all deserve top honors for the remarkable vehicles that they are.
1. The BMW M3 is perhaps the most recognized offering from the company. The M3 is the poor man's super car. It combines every usability with performance that is hard to match at any price. The M3 has been around for decades and remains a perennial favorite with each new generation. It's high powered engine, amazing handling, luxurious interior, and low price make it a bargain in its class.
2. The BMW M5 is commonly referred to as the big brother to the M3. It offers even more power than the M3, more luxuries, and does so for a reasonable price. Though not quite the bargain that the M3 is, the M5 offers something the 3 cannot. It offers comfortable seating for 5, a refined ride, and bountiful torque.
3. The BMW 2002 is an icon of the brand. This vehicle kicked off the compact, sporty vehicle segment and is still highly desirable today. It is know as the predecessor to the 3 series, but is regarded as much more. This could be the most important vehicle BMW ever produced.
4. The BMW 540i M-Sport 6 speed manual model produced in 2003 represents the pinnacle of the much revered E39 chassis. This torquey V8, six speed manual, and sports suspension package make this one of the most desirable 5 series ever offered.
5. The BMW 530i is highly regarded as the most perfectly executed vehicle ever made. Consumer Reports rated it as the best vehicle of all time. It's steering is widely regarding as the best of any vehicle, period.
6. The rare BMW M Coupe was only available for a short period of time but became an immediate hit with enthusiasts. It's low weight and high power made it highly desirable for motor sports use. Its lack on interior room limited sales and ultimately led to the cancellation of the model.
7. The E46 3 Series is said to be the best 3 Series ever produced. It sold in remarkable numbers and fetches a high price tag in the used vehicle market. It combines sporty handling, excellent steering and strong performance. Magazines have touted this vehicle as the benchmark to compare all others against.
8. The rare BMW 8 series is a collectors item for good reason. Its styling was unlike other BMW products. IT offered incredibly powerful engine choices, solid handling, rarity, and arguably good looks. Difficult to find today, this vehicle commands a high premium in the used car market.
9. The BMW M1, the company's first true super car, will forever hold a place in BMW's long history. The rarity of this vehicle makes it extremely exclusive and arguably the most desirable BMW ever.
10. Rounding out the list is the BMW Isetta. This micro-car is well known due to its appearances in numerous movies. Its diminutive size, front entry point, and remarkable fuel economy marks the strong points of this vehicle. This vehicle is still highly prized and sought after today.
There you have, the top ten vehicles of all time produced by BMW inventors of the "Ultimate Driving Machine". Give any of the vehicles a try and you are sure to come back impressed.
