Boarding Schools VS. Public Schools: Moral Standards and Education

A Few Ideas and Suggestions

Mrs. Renee
There are some parents who look at boarding school as a place for children of the wealthy. There are of course other parents who see boarding school as a way to receive a better education for their child. Nowadays it seems that most public schools are way overcrowded, and not well equipped or staffed properly. One thing that you will need to keep in mind when it comes to boarding schools is that your child will be away from you for a certain period of time. Of course the academic standards of a boarding school as definitely much higher than that of a public school. Unfortunately what many parents don't realize is that the moral standards of the students who attend these boarding schools are really just the same as public schools.

Remember that with a boarding school your child is being sent away from you and your influence. They will be under the influence of others and will not have the daily support, love and care that children need from their parents. In most boarding schools the children are together twenty four hours a day, and these are the people who will ultimately determine how your child's moral standards will be. Some parents may also feel that it is safer, since the teachers in boarding schools have to go through a lot stricter screening process than those in public schools. Sad to say however this is just not the case. Many have found that incidents that take place in boarding schools are acutely ones that never get reported until years later when the child is now an adult. A boarding school can also be a very restrictive place. Most boarding schools require that all students stay on school grounds during the week. On the weekends they are allowed to go out. Of course younger ones need an adult to sign them out in order to leave for the weekend. When it comes to academics however boarding schools definitely take the cake. They do have a lot more structure, due to the fact that they can keep their class sizes a lot smaller than that of public schools. If you are looking however to raise a child with good moral standards and get a good education, boarding school is not the way to go. The only way that you can ensure that your child has the right moral standards is to take the time and teach them yourself. The bottom line is that the decision is that of parents, but you should make sure that you do all of your research before you decide to enroll your child in boarding school.
