Boating, Canoeing, Kayaking in the Finger Lakes, New York

If you are looking for a place to kayak, boat or canoe, you may want to consider the Finger Lakes Region of New York. In this area, there are various lakes to be found. While there are many more lakes in the area, here are the lakes that are the most popular to visit.

Cayuga Lake, which is a little less than forty miles long, is the longest lake in the region. Seneca Lake, which is 38 miles long, is very well known and visited because it is one of the deepest lakes in the United States. Canandaigua (about 15 and a half miles long), Owasco (eleven miles) and Skaneateles (about 13 and a half miles long) are some of the other very popular lakes to boat, canoe and kayak at.

The Finger Lakes Region of New York is a much better place to canoe for beginners or boat. The reason is because they may provide less excitement for kayakers than rivers would - however, do keep in mind that there are some rivers located in this region as well. Many of the lakes, particularly Cayuga and Seneca, are more well known for trout fishing.

In the Finger Lakes Region of New York, there are many different hiking trails and state parks. Most of the trails are low to medium in difficulty levels. If you are looking to break up a sweat, you may want to ask a park ranger what trails are slightly more hilly. Bird watching is very popular in the Finger Lakes Region.

There are a variety of campgrounds located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. If you are planning to stay on one, it is important to remember that you will need to have a permit if you are going to be with a large party or if you plan to stay for more than two days.
